What's Been Happening at the Sands RV & Golf Resort

When you are sitting around with nothing to do at the Sands RV and Golf Resort, just pick up your monthly activities calendar and "Just Do It."  Since arriving in late October, my wife and I have been non-stop going and doing with all the numerous activities, events, golfing, dancing, and enjoying the resort.

 

Golfing on our well-conditioned course hosted by golf pro Harry Sailor, the Men's and Ladies' golf clubs have been having our weekly men's day and ladies day competitions and our memberships have climbed to 96 and 74 respectfully.

The Men's Invitational to the Ladies' Tournament was held in December and the Ladies returned the favor with their annual Valentine's Invitational in February.

The Can-Am tournament was held February 19th with everyone dressed in red, white, and blue or red and white if you are Canadian.  A wonderful lunch was held and it was announced that the Canadians won this year. Congratulations!

On Fridays, we play a scramble, which really helps everyone become acquainted as couples are split up and we play with different people every week. People sign up to do a lunch after golf, and it’s surprising how great of a lunch you can get for part of your entry fee of $2.00.

Our Men's club sent 40 members to our neighbors across the street at Hidden Springs for the annual contest and the Sands Men’s Club provided pizza for lunch. The ladies will be playing Tuesday, February 23rd in the Rally-for-the-Cure raising money for the Susan G. Koman Foundation. The men will join them afterward for an auction and social.

Next up is the Men's and Ladies' Club Championships March 1-3 plus our Hole-in-One parties and the annual Awards Banquet with a steak dinner for members who look forward to attending. A big thank you goes out to all our executive board members, luncheon chairs, sports and tournament captains, and volunteers it takes to put on all these events.

Our resort has had several dances and shows for our entertainment. If you like tap dancing, you can join Bunny and the Sandtappers who practice twice a week and will be putting on a show at Hidden Springs and the Sands. Line dancing has caught on and over 30 dancers are kicking up their heals every Thursday afternoon. If you like hiking see Roger and join in every Thursday morning for long or short hikes. For those who like to quilt, Gwen has the quilters at the North Hall on Wednesdays.

Other activities you can get involved with are bingo, bridge, poker, cribbage, dominos, computer discussion, DVD exercise, and Texas Holdem. The refurbished pool is the place to be at 8:30 and 1:00 for water aerobics.  If you like to socialize, join others at the ice cream social at 3:00 on Tuesdays, or Happy Hour at 4:30 on Wednesdays. We have had pancake breakfasts and Craft & Boutique sales as well. If you wish, there are church services at 10:00 on Sundays.

 

At the Sands RV & Golf Resort, there is something for everyone. Our park is blessed with friendly people, both Americans and Canadians who enjoy each other's company and fun. Our owners have made a sincere effort to improve the park and golf course for us, plus they recently hosted a free lunch and prizes around the pool to bring us all together. We are so lucky to be here for the winter, and appreciate our time in the desert.
